Best Methods to use Ginger for Nausea
-
Ginger Tea for Nausea
Ginger tea for nausea is easily the top choice among consumers for treating nausea. It is easy to purchase and use and generally recognized as safe for most people. I highly recommend purchasing an organic brand of ginger tea to minimize the consumption of pesticides especially during pregnancy. (As with anything, please speak with your doctor about any supplements/herbal remedies prior to use. Naturopathic physicians are highly recommended.) My personal favorite is the Traditional Medicinals brand.
2. Ginger Candy for Nausea
Ginger candy for nausea is a great choice for people who may not like the taste of ginger as there are many varieties that taste less like ginger and more like a sweet caramel with a hint of ginger. Keep in mind that you may not get as powerful results with candy but it can help a little; the key is finding a candy that has very few ingredients and not much sugar. The GinsGins brand is my favorite ginger candy and can also be found at Whole Foods. You can try the drops (hard candy) or the chews. You could also try crystallized ginger as shown in the photo below.
3.Ginger Ale for Nausea
Ginger Ale for nausea is perhaps one of the best alternatives to eating ginger candy as it is both sweet and contains ginger but isn’t hard to consume. What I mean is, sometimes when you’re very nauseous chewing something like a candy may be off-putting and a nice cold soda poured over some ice can ease symptoms especially during pregnancy. Just be sure to choose a brand without high fructose corn syrup and check that it does indeed contain real ginger and not blended with not-so-natural “natural flavors”. A top quality brand of ginger ale that uses natural ingredients and sweetened with agave is the Q brand. If you can’t find this in a store near you just be sure to read labels, anything noting real ginger extract is a good choice. Some markets label ginger ale as ginger beer either one works.
4. Ginger Pills/Supplements for Nausea
Ginger pills or ginger supplements for nausea is one option that works for people who absolutely hate the taste of ginger but are in desperation to try something for their nausea. The Himalya Brand is one of the highest quality brands on the market and I am in love with all of their products! Anytime you choose to consume supplements of plant origin, especially herbal and root varieties, opt for organic as the pesticide content is extremely high in non organic herbals.
5. Raw Ginger for Nausea
Raw Ginger for Nausea is an option for people who love ginger like myself! When I was pregnant with my children I had horrible morning sickness and the only relief I got was when I sliced raw ginger root into some extra freezing cold ice water and added a little honey for sweetness. Call this my home-made ginger ale, if you will. Ginger root can be grown easily in your back yard or simply purchased from your local market. Opt for locally grown and/or organic options. If non organic ginger is all you can find then soak it in a bowl mixed with water and 1/2 cup of baking soda for 15 min, this will remove all of the pesticides from the surface of the root but what remains inside cannot be extracted.
